Fire polishing our glass.

"YES, you can fire polish our Smalti". The antique color palette comes in a matte finish and the modern comes out so sparkly you have to wear sun glasses. Juli Hulcy’s Jim Bob Rooster, a work in progress, shows the matte finish of the antique color palette while Sleeping Tree Frog, by Barbara Dybala, was created with fire polishing the modern color group.

Zeng Fang, at the factory in China, gave us the green light to fire polish the product. Her advice was not to mix the two color palettes in the kiln. Each color palette has its own Coefficient of Expansion (COE) rating. This glass is not rated to mix with any other brand of glass. So no mixing!

More great news! We now carry select colors of modern Smalti in UNCUT GLASS, about 10 1/2 in x 10 1/2 in. More fun in the glass kiln as well! We are currently running test firings to discover more great ways to use our product. The uncut glass can be cut with a glass cutter. For more circular detail cutting, like Jim Bob's comb, a T-3, Taurus 3 ring saw was used.

Below are the firing schedules for both types of Smalti, modern and antique.
Please join us in experimenting with our product. We would love to post your work and your test trials.

Thanks,
Barbara
